Project Overview

Set against the expansive Australian landscape of the 1950s, Outback Odyssey follows a young migrant confronting identity, silence, and systemic authority in a nation still shaping its post-war character.

While grounded in post-war migration history, the narrative operates as a broader allegory of belonging and erasure — exploring how national identity is constructed alongside cultural displacement, silence, and unresolved histories, including the presence and marginalisation of First Nations communities.

The story combines:

  • Intimate character drama

  • Expansive natural landscapes

  • Historical realism

  • Intergenerational consequence

  • Cultural tension and moral ambiguity

  • Emotional and psychological depth

The tone aligns with prestige historical drama and internationally viable co-production frameworks.

Co-Production & Development

The project sits within the historical context of Australia–UK migration and aligns with official co-production treaty frameworks.

A feature-length screenplay and professional pitch deck have been completed, with development materials prepared in consultation with an experienced industry professional.

The project is currently open to development partnerships.

Historical and cultural elements, including themes relating to First Nations presence and marginalisation in mid-20th-century Australia, have been researched with care. The project welcomes collaboration with First Nations cultural advisers during any future screen development process.

Cultural & Historical Research

Historical and cultural elements, including themes relating to First Nations presence and marginalisation in mid-20th-century Australia, were informed by publicly available anthropological scholarship, archival material, and primary historical sources.

The project acknowledges the importance of cultural consultation and welcomes collaboration with First Nations advisers in any future screen development process.

                                                   Author Context

The narrative draws upon the author’s lived experience working in remote Australian environments, informing the portrayal of landscape, isolation, labour culture, and regional social dynamics.

This experiential grounding supports the historical research underpinning the project.

Complete development materials are available to production companies and accredited industry professionals upon request.
